Pear Project
Watercolor & Ink on Illustration Board
For this project, we were tasked to create a series with a few overarching elements, one of which had to be a fruit or vegetable included in every piece.
I immediately knew that I wanted to do tarot cards. They are beautiful, fascinating, and meaningful- everything that makes a good series- and I could make them my own. I also wanted to do pieces inspired by Alphonse Mucha, so I went for a vaguely Grecian theme, like he did in many of his pieces, and thus it made sense for my fruit to be grapes. There are 78 tarot cards, and I chose the 8 cards I wanted to design from the major arcana- what you usually think of when you think of tarot cards- by picking every third one in order to have a good variety.
This series tells the story of the downfall and salvation of a girl. A fool. But pay attention to the details, and decide her story for yourself.
(In order: The Fool, The Empress, The Lovers, The Hermit, The Hanged Man, The Devil, The Moon, The World)
